To understand the significance of the name "Phoenix Rising Education Program", it's essential to understand the mythological origins of the phoenix. In Greek and Egyptian mythology, the phoenix is a magnificent bird that is said to have a lifespan of hundreds of years. At the end of its life, it builds a nest, sets itself on fire, and is consumed by the flames. From the ashes, a new phoenix emerges, reborn and renewed, symbolizing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The phoenix is a picture of resilience.
Human trafficking is a heinous crime that leaves deep scars on those affected by it. When our program was conceived by Pamela Lee, one of our founders, the resilience of the phoenix was seared into her mind. Children and adults who have been affected by the crime of human trafficking are resilient like the bird that rose from the ashes. People affected by trafficking are magnificent, like the phoenix. They were created for a purpose, that does not include being enslaved.
The fact that at any given moment an estimated 500,000 predators are online looking to make children victims demands attention. It is not something we can turn away from. Our founding board of directors all agreed, that once we had seen the problem, we couldn't act as though we had not. We hope that as we learn and grow this organization, our efforts will create a ripple effect in our community, raising awareness of the issues of human trafficking and its intersection with the internet and children. If you would like us to speak to your group or community please contact us. We do not charge or ask for a donation to educate your group on the dangers of the internet for children or the realities facing those who have been affected by these crimes.
